To My Sister
1 November 2008

When I was alone I prayed.
I asked God for a friend and he gave
me you
I kept my ear to mother's belly
Heard you turn, felt your kick like jelly
Then you came
I smelled sour milk, nappies, baby powder
Then you turned from rosy cheeks into a flower
Bright beautiful bashful you.
I see you learn
I see you grow
I see your hopes and fears
I wish I could prevent your tears
You are glass. Delicate and fragile yet
sometimes unbendable, still breakable
Your glorious glitter shines smooth surfaces
And in the soft lines your contours melt
We not only share the same heritage
But is born out of love and trust
How I appreciate you my sister
You give of yourself, pour out your heart
We can talk for ages and it's you that phone/s
When I am down or when we are apart
I wish, I hope, good things for you
That you will become all you can be
To the best of your ability
I pray that God will be your anchor
Your northern star,
Your map to guide you wherever you are
Because I know you're in His hand
He will lead you places we
will not always understand
But I trust him with this priceless treasure
My dear sweet sister you are a pleasure!

The Killing
5 October 2008

the tears don`t sting anymore
they just leak form the eyes and from the soul they pour
they splatter from a painful place
hurt drip deep red drops of despair
bleeding i have lost the meaning
dont feel the cut anymore,
though the wound is fatal and sore
cover the agony with pretty pictures and smiles,
with sweet last words and pleasant goodbyes
there is no beauty in death only denial
slashed to pieces, torn, thrust through
what is it you want me to do?
twist the handle, brake me, throw me away
i am dead anyway
the very thing thats killing me is keeping me alive
still i can feel the turning blade
as eyes grow hazy and all emotion fade

If I Could
27 September 2008

If I could spare every teardrop I have shed
I would have an ocean
I would drown myself in sorrow
And forget about tomorrow
If I could collect every drop of blood that
Has fallen to the floor
During peace and during war
I would have an ocean
To bathe a cruel cruel nation
If I could gather all the rain that has
Fallen from heaven to the ground
And count the angels sighing sound
I would have an ocean
To cleanse a universe with this potion
If I could travel space and time
I would search till I found you and make you mine
We would count stars and give them names
Hide in clouds and play games
Love you close and love you far
Meet you at the point of a star
If only I could

The Tear
25 September 2008

One face buried in two hands
Silence broken by weeping
This choking emotion is not ours for the keeping
Two streams, warm water
A flickering star
A heart hurting afar
Salty is the taste of sorrow not sweet
Chin is where the two lines meet
Blurry the vision
Gone the smell
Broken the inside
And empty the well

Child of Africa
19 September 2008

Child of Africa with the sun in your eyes
And the light of the stars in your smile
This is where ivory and ebony meets
You are intimately acquainted with the way of the wild
The track of the antelope
The call of the grey lourie
The strength of the elephant
You know the lions roar of royalty
The sound of rain upon rocks
Is familiar with the Rhino's horn of power
The stature of the giraffe
And the number of buffalo
Rooted in the smell of the earth
Heat simmers skin
Just as the Cicada hisses her lament
Of agitation and discomfort
Silhouettes of thorn trees
Scratched out against the gold's of the evening sky
At home in Africa
Land of sweat dust and blood
The sting and the bite of nature's cruelty
In the black skin of night you never sleep
Though in dreams your restlessness awakens
To reveal its brutal beauty
The pulse of life in the rhythm of your soul
And the beat of your drums
Flowing through your veins
As the great circle of life
Turns clockwork with every breath
Carved in wood and stone
The echoes of your dance, fire and song
Contributing to the sounds of the night live on
Covered in colorful coatings
Of beads fabrics and feathers
Borrowed from the spots of the leopard and the stripe of the zebra
Many and sometimes difficult were the trails your bare feet trampled
Wrongly labeled slave or lesser being
By some whose skin could nor soak up the sun
In open plains and majestic highlands you will play
Freedom forever yours
You need not be anything else to prove your worth
Because out of simplicity and a heart of purity
The earth yields a jewel
Woven in the African womb

Comparison
11 September 2008
Questions come up to rise
sometimes it's a big suprise
Changes to myself you ask
Fearful to accept the task
Why do you ask this of me?
"A better person you can be"
Seeing the man I can become
You won't stop untill it's done
I can't see the cards in my hand
All my feelings start to disband
On the edge you make me stand
Frozen I stiffen on the sand
If it's a rare possibility
do you know the difficulty?
Not knowing I try to achieve
All I ask is for you to believe
Heartbroken you went and compared
In a trap you end up ensnaired
How do you measure sacrifice
when your heart is not in place?
When the goal was still very far away
did you, with your love, still stay?

The Deep
20 August 2008

"As deep crieth unto deep at the noise of thy water sprouts, all thy billows and waves has gone over me"
Winds sweeping over a restless sea
Theres a thousand words in a single silence
Will the tide crush me upon the shore
Will the
Ebb and flow
come and go
and sweep away
with rythm and sway
white waves foaming
and salty spray
the oceans voice groaning
under the powers that may
Purged by violent waters I might say
Drawn to
The
Deep
As the waters washing over me play

Your Love
14 August 2008
i am your friend
i see your gift
you see people
know people
love people
with a simple love
a silent love
thats hidden
deep within your heart
yet such a strong love
it almost amazes me
this powerful love of yours
your love is beautiful
you are beautiful
Has anybody said that to you?
beyond the surface of flesh
lies your heart
an ever reaching embracing pull
you know how to love people
in the way they want to be loved
but does anybody know
how you would like to be loved?
knower of love
with so much to give
seeker of those
worthy to receive
with open arms you invite
you are not discouraged by disappointments
hurt maybe
but you understand this simple truth
if one reaches into the heart only
to withdraw quickly
this causes the heart to break
you know the love
you hope in
believe in
exist
wait for it
find it
then take hold of it
whatever it takes
Oh may you experience the love of your dreams
A hundred fold, a thousand times over
may the God who taught you to love
bless you with a love
that will seep from every pore
every moment of your life
because before receiving
you just
loved somebody like me

Window
20 July 2008

I like where the wind blows
It blows where it wants to
It goes where it wants to
Nothing can pin it down, control it
Restrain or contain it
I like the way the wind blows
Sometimes a light breeze
Caressing the tops of trees,
Sometimes violent
Angerly tearing
and sometimes silent
I like the way the wind goes
Seeing the world it travels
Tossing fabric and string while it unravels
The mysterious curios dance
That
Blows at your washing
Lift a bird in flight while
lightnings flashing
Leave spray on your face while the oceans crashing
and
Walks in a whirlwind of tumbling leaves

The Sunrise
16 July 2008

I will rise with mystic glimmer and the shadows will dance before your feet
I will kiss you with the breath of summer
Like the wind,a gentle breeze upon your cheek
I will light your way from the break of day
And bathe you in a golden gleam of sunlight
In your clear crisp laughter i will find delight
As you ride upon a sunbeam
And when you open your eyes and realize
It all has been a dream
You will turn to the things that might be more real
To the things that seem unseen
But as you start to fade away in the darkness that approaches
There`s a promise that bade to my surprise
That if night was not there it could not announce the next sunrise

Modern Existence
27 February 2008
Slow moving
Fast living
Going nowhere in a hurry
Beating dust
Chasing wind
Spill the life
Sap it dry
Miss the mark
Loose the line
Cut the vein
You are out of time
And only regret remain

Ontmoediger
26 February 2008
Hierdie is die lied wat ek elke oggend uitgiet
Dit is my hart, my smart
Jy die een wat my met jou glimlag uittart
Wat my toevou met jou drome
Totdat ek wil versmoor
Wat vrae vra oor my vermoë
Wat my uitvra oor my drome
Maar wat my uitlag met jou oë
Spry jou vlerke, mik hoog
Maar onthou as jy val
Ek het jou lot betoog
Sinies sien jy my siel
En trek dit uit met jou woorde
Gaan soek suksess in ander se weivelde of oorde
Doof en blind
Eks mos gister se kind
Wat roep na die wind
Moed skep in emmers vol gate
Verkore maar verlore roep jy uitgelate
Hiers dit binne jou bereik
Dan stamp jy my kop onderste bo
En dans ek weer van stryk
Jy lig my op jy gooi my neer
Jy prober jou bes om my te keer
Maar jy weet ek gee nie op
So jy kan maar gerus jou leuens stop
Hulle se aanhouer wen
So bly still en gee my die pen

The Jungle
25 February 2008
We live in an artificial world
With artificial trees and artificial skies
With artificial people passing by
They fake their facial expression
Counterfeiting their thoughts and feelings
To be part of this genuine deception
Holding unto time for dear life
Selectively we simply ignore
That unnecessary for
Surviving in this artificial world
That what is natural have become
Too weak, too slow
To support our selfish existence
Closing the door to thought
We accept the artificial behavior of our world
Stretching the boundaries of limitation
Leaving no room for morality
Becoming an agnostic nation
We live in an artificial world
With artificial mountains and artificial ground
Artificial animals and artificial sound
With artificial air
Artificial people unwilling to share
The reality that once was part of humanity

Valuable Lessons
12 December 2007
You have learned the true value of a mistake
Once you see the experience it brings
You have learned the true value of time
When you run out of it, and haven't spent it meaningfully
You have learned the true meaning of freedom
When you can be yourself regardless of others
You have not learned the true meaning of something
Until you have lost it
You have learned the value of virtue
When you choose to do what is right rather than what comes easily
You have learned the true meaning of humility
When you can sit with a beggar and call him friend
You have learned the true meaning of compassion
When you can look at the suffering and see yourself
You have found the value of laughter
When you can't find anything to laugh about
You have grasped the meaning of love
When its worth living and dying for.
You have learned what makes a man great
When you realize
It's not the size of his bank balance,
His brain or his... uhm... pride
But his heart
So I guess size does matter ;)
